Solent Stars entered the second division of the National Basketball League for the first time in the 1980/81 season.
The club had been formed at the end of the previous season
from two Southern League teams - Portsmouth Pirates and Southampton
Sharks. Harry Smith then took over the backing for the team-making
development and submitted an entry to the National Basketball
League in April 1980. Shortly after this the club was accepted
into the league.
Solent then competed for 27 years in various divisions of the
English Basketball National League, winning many trophies
over the years. Full details can be discovered in the history
section.
In September 2007 the club issued a press
release announcing that they would not be competing during
the 2007/08 season.
